Clanbuilding for Dummies, Chapter 25

Previously: Newly-turned vampire Elliot Marshall has been recently reunited with his long-lost love, Miss H. But just as their rival vampire clans are planning to merge, everyone is tricked into drinking from humans infected by the Mother Plant. Well, everyone except for three vampires who opted for plasma packs…

As their fellow vampires (and their snacks, the Roomies) staggered around the mansion, Allie, Caleb, and Kyle tried to come up with a plan for how they should proceed. This was difficult, as they could not reveal themselves to be free of this “Mother” plant’s control. Yet attempting to carry on a conversation using repetitive and only mildly coherent phrases in order to blend in was a near impossibility. For now, they simply moved to a quiet corner and murmured to each other while occasionally making weird faces.

The trio awkwardly bolted out the door, with Bartholomew at their heels, trying his best not to get stepped on in the midst of their unpredictable movements. Dawn was on the horizon, although the weather looked cloudy for the day. The three of them (four, if one counted the cat), could only hope it was enough to deter the vampires from giving chase for too long. Caleb desperately tried to think of plan they wouldn’t be looked for. Perhaps somewhere in Newcrest? No one ever went there, after all. The suggestion seemed to spark something in Kyle’s mind. Caleb had to admit, looking over Kyle’s attire (and listening to him talk for more than a few minutes), he wasn’t sure he entirely trusted the strange vampire’s judgement. Then again, with the seriousness of the situation looming over them, and the fact that they their enemy could be hidden as anyone, Caleb supposed he had very little choice in the matter.

Story of his life, really. He seriously needed to find an occupation and lifestyle that allowed him a little more agency.

Kyle led the group to a spot in Newcrest that supposedly not even his friends knew about. Lexi had her secret lab in Elliot’s basement, he told them, so he had his own secret places.

Neither Caleb nor Allie had any clue what he was talking about, but they followed along nonetheless.

  1. Haha, I loved the ice fishing shack, LOL. I like that now we’ll be focusing on Caleb, Allie and Kyle’s POVs. And this new turn of events is great, now we get to see aliens and vampires interacting.

    • Thanks! I actually had to use the weather machine to change the temperature when I shot this scene, because at first it was too cold for Kyle to fish. ^_^;;

  2. Aliens!! YES! Man, your plots are so impossibly original. I admire the heck out of them. I really, really, REALLY love your take on the StrangerVille mystery and the way you managed to incorporate it so easily and so seamlessly and so beautifully into your main plot. This is how you fix together the side storyline with the main one… you did it so absolutely impeccably! Makes it super clear what a great writer you are.

    • Aww…thank you! I do love the aliens and it seemed to make sense the Mother Plant would have caused trouble on other worlds, too.
